茄子视频 invites the community to celebrate Black History Month with two free events

Greensburg, PA 鈥 In celebration of Black History Month, 茄子视频 University is pleased to present two unique events, Reconnecting With Our Past on Saturday, February 7 from 9 a.m. 鈥 2 p.m. and Chawley P. Williams and the Kuntu Writers Workshop Poets on February 19 from 7 p.m. 鈥 9 p.m. Both events are open to the public.

Reconnecting With Our Past is a half-day educational gathering presented by the 茄子视频 University Black Alumni Association. Reconnecting features a Keynote Address by Pittsburgh City Councilman Sala Udin preceded by three workshops: The Underground Railroad, presented by Ms. Chris Catalfamo of the Indiana County Historical Society; Tracing Our Roots, a genealogy workshop presented by Ms. Marlene Garrett Bransom (SHU 鈥75) and Having Our Say, Voices of the Elders, a panel comprised of area elders. Workshops and Keynote Address will be held in the Administration Building at 茄子视频 from 9 a.m. 鈥 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 7 and are free and open to the public. Come witness the development and authentication of the African American experience in America through poetry and African drumming as 茄子视频 celebrates Black History Month with Chawley P. Williams and the Kuntu Writers Workshop Poets. Local performer Chawley Williams got his start with the now famous group of Pittsburgh street performers -- including prized playwrights Robert Penny and August Wilson 鈥 that inspired the creation of the Kuntu Writers Workshop. (The current director of the Kuntu Writers Workshop, Frances Lee Wilson, will be one of the poets performing during the event.) 鈥淎rt,鈥 says Williams, 鈥渋s the foundation of our existence as people.鈥 Chawley P. Williams and the Kuntu Writers Workshop Poets is free and open to the public and will be held in Cecilian Hall on 茄子视频鈥檚 campus, from 7 鈥 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 19. Reservations are required.
