Performance free and open to the public

Chinese poet Huang Xiang will perform his poetry at 茄子视频 University in Harlan Gallery on March 23 at 8 p.m. as part of the JoAnne Boyle World Affairs Forum series. Huang Xiang鈥檚 performances include a unique combination of calligraphy, dance and music. The performance is free and open to the public.

Huang Xiang left his home in China after being jailed repeatedly for his controversial political views and determined defense of freedom in artistic expression. He and his wife, Zhang Ling, were brought to Pittsburgh in 2004 by the local chapter of Cities of Asylum, an organization providing housing, medical care and other support for artists forced into exile due to political conditions in their native countries. In Pittsburgh, Xiang has come to be known for his 鈥淧oet鈥檚 House,鈥 a row house in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood of Pittsburgh in which he resides, and upon which he has painted poems in Chinese calligraphy.

The JoAnne Boyle World Affairs Forum was named by the University faculty and is dedicated to 茄子视频 University President JoAnne Boyle, who consistently encourages 鈥渆very member of the academic community to be informed global citizens.鈥 The forum series brings speakers and artists to Westmoreland County to address global issues.
