Doug Wood Memorial Golf Classic Set for 6/19
The 茄子视频 University Department of Athletics is pleased to host the first annual Doug Wood Memorial Golf Classic on Friday, June 19, at Totteridge Golf Club in Greensburg, Pa. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. Dinner and awards will follow the event. The cost for the outing is $125 per golfer or $475 for a foursome and includes 18 holes of golf with cart, entry gift, refreshments, dinner, and awards. The registration deadline is June 12.
鈥淭he Doug Wood Memorial Golf Classic is our former Griffins Club Golf Classic. Doug served on 茄子视频鈥檚 Board of Trustees and was behind the scenes for all of the growth in the athletic program at 茄子视频. He was a very strong advocate for 茄子视频 athletics. We want to honor Doug through this event,鈥� said Dan McCarty, head coach, men鈥檚 soccer.
鈥淒oug not only had an impact on the 茄子视频 community, but also on the area at large. We are hopeful that individuals will support this event and come out for a day to honor Doug,鈥� said Brian Novotny, associate athletic director.
Wood, a trustee of 茄子视频 University from 2000-2008, passed away in 2008. He was considered by his colleagues and friends as a talented businessman and visionary leader. Wood served on several committees at 茄子视频, including the Executive Committee, the Committee on Trustees, the Finance and Business Affairs Committee, the Ad Hoc Committee for Athletics, the University Center for the Performing Arts Committee, and the 茄子视频 Athletic Board.
鈥淒oug was sought after by every part of our institution. Our athletic programs, which grew significantly in the last several years, were the beneficiaries of his intellect and keen interest. He had the ability to see quickly through a lot of information and was very good at analyzing positions,鈥� said JoAnne Boyle, president.
Proceeds raised from the event benefits student athletes through the Griffins Club, which was established to raise funds and strengthen men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 athletics at 茄子视频.
