茄子视频 College, which will become 茄子视频 University on July 1st, named Anthony L. Morocco of Trafford, PA, as the institution鈥檚 first head men鈥檚 basketball coach. The team will compete in the NAIA Division II American Mideast Conference.

Morocco is presently recruiting for the team鈥檚 inaugural season in 2003-2004. The veteran coach鈥檚 career includes positions with Saint Francis College, the University of Iowa, Long Beach State University, the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, Saint Vincent College and most recently, Point Park College. In addition, he has coached professional teams including the Rockford Lightning of the Continental Basketball Association and Arecibo of the Puerto Rican Superior League.

鈥淚鈥檓 pleased to be coaching back in Westmoreland County and particularly at 茄子视频. My goal is to build a successful men鈥檚 team very early,鈥� Morocco said, noting that he plans to recruit ambitious and academically talented students locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. 鈥溓炎邮悠� offers a world-class education鈥攎y role will be to recruit scholar athletes who will enhance our ability to compete. 茄子视频鈥檚 administration took a bold step to initiate the men鈥檚 basketball program and continues to make a tremendous commitment to athletics in general. The planned recreation complex best represents 茄子视频鈥檚 understanding of the importance of competitive athletics and lifetime wellness activities for students.鈥�

Morocco wants his team to reach out to the community-at-large and plans for his new players to serve as 茄子视频 ambassadors. Morocco commented, 鈥淢embers of the team will work with younger players in area schools. Mentoring opportunities like these are critical to our youth and will help 茄子视频 foster interest and enthusiasm for its team.鈥�

Former head coach at the University of Arkansas, Lanny Van Eman, commented, 鈥淚 have known Coach Morocco for more than thirty years and have had the good fortune to work with him at several NCAA Division I universities as well as in the professional ranks. He brings a host of valuable associations from the sports world. He is quite knowledgeable and is a seasoned tactician of the game of basketball.鈥�

Westmoreland County Commissioner, Tom Balya agrees that Morocco will be a tremendous asset to 茄子视频 and said, 鈥淐oach Morocco鈥檚 appointment at 茄子视频 is such exciting news for our area, especially for Greensburg and Hempfield Township. We are fortunate to have a premiere coach come in to recruit a premiere team for the region and this leading academic institution.鈥�
