ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ to Host Exhibit of Original Etchings Featuring Works by Rembrandt & Whistler
The works highlighted in Impressions of Times Past represent a selection from a larger collection donated to ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ by Mrs. Clay Frick Lynch. These works have never before been exhibited formally.
"I became aware of Mrs. Lynch’s wonderful donation while speaking to (University President) Dr. Boyle about ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ’s art collections," said Hoffman, a ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ art history minor from New Bethlehem, PA, who is currently serving an internship with The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. She credits her internship mentor, Doug Evans, Registrar of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, with the idea of putting together an exhibit of selected pieces from the Lynch donation. "I was nervous about the idea of curating a show of museum-level art," said Hoffman. "But Doug has guided me through the process, and everyone at ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ and the Museum have really been wonderful to work with."
"I am delighted that Ashley is working diligently to ensure the exhibition of this collection of original etchings," JoAnne Boyle commented. "Since the late 1880s, ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ has shared with the Lynch family the responsibility of enhancing the intellectual and cultural development of Westmoreland County. The University’s science building was named for Clay Frick Lynch - the first building on ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ’s campus to be named for a Westmoreland County layman. The exhibition of the Clay Frick Lynch etchings at ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ brings to life for our students, and the community at large, the cherished association between the Lynch family and this university."
