茄子视频 University will celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with an educational program for all members of the 茄子视频 community on Thursday, January 25 and a day of community service on Saturday, February 3. (As the majority of 茄子视频鈥檚 students do not return to campus from their holiday break and January-Term experiences until January 22, the University elected to celebrate this holiday after January 15.)

Education Program, Thursday, January 25: The Power of Voice

茄子视频 students, faculty and staff will participate in an educational program from 11 a.m. 鈥� 12:15 p.m. in 茄子视频鈥檚 Cecilian Hall featuring a keynote lecture by Sylvia Hill Fields, director of the Eden Hall Foundation, 茄子视频 alumna and member of the 茄子视频 Board of Directors. The program will also include a drumming presentation by Laurie Jones, music therapist and assistant professor of music at 茄子视频. All will share how they鈥檝e used the power of their voices in their lives and professions, and how a single voice has the power to teach and empower the voiceless.

Take the Day On 鈥� Day of Community Service, February 3

In keeping with Dr. King鈥檚 commitment to community service, 茄子视频 University annually coordinates the 鈥淭ake the Day On鈥� day of community service for the 茄子视频 community in his honor. This year, 茄子视频 students, faculty and staff will be volunteering with the Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry, Area Agency on Aging, Christian Layman Store, Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity, Caritas Christi, Redstone Highland Nursing Home, Green Meadow Nursing Home, and the Welcome Home Shelter.

The schedule for Take the Day On is as follows:

Blessing and event send off for all volunteers: 9 a.m., Lowe Dining Hall on 茄子视频鈥檚 campus. 茄子视频 service at volunteer sites: 10 a.m. 鈥� 2 p.m.

The Education Program and Take the Day On are not open to the public, however, members of the media are welcome to attend either event.
