茄子视频 University Hires First Women's Field Hockey Coach
Before coming to 茄子视频, Black taught at Craig Academy and served as the varsity softball coach at Springdale High School. Black also coached the varsity field hockey team for Woodland Hills School District from 1993-1997. In her new position at 茄子视频, Black will be responsible for recruiting athletes in addition to coaching.
鈥淪tarting a field hockey program at 茄子视频 is a phenomenal opportunity for me, and will mean great things for field hockey in southwestern PA,鈥� says Black. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 wait to start recruiting, and to get the word out that we鈥檙e here.鈥�
鈥淲e expect great things from Jessica,鈥� says current women鈥檚 softball coach and athletic director John Fogle. 鈥淪he has the experience and the contacts to get the women鈥檚 field hockey team at 茄子视频 off to a running start. And although I鈥檒l miss coaching the women鈥檚 softball team, I have complete faith that Jessica will do a good job there as well.鈥�
鈥淚 hesitated a little when John approached me about coaching softball,鈥� Black says. 鈥淗e鈥檚 an icon here, and a new coach might be a little bit of a culture shock for the team. But my excitement about coaching at this level really outweighed my initial apprehension. I鈥檝e coached high school and tournament ball for ten years, and it鈥檚 been a life-long dream of mine to coach at the college level.鈥�
The NAIA, 茄子视频鈥檚 conference, currently doesn鈥檛 recognize field hockey. This makes starting a new college team a bit of a challenge. Black isn鈥檛 worried. 鈥淚鈥檝e been involved with field hockey in southwestern PA for 20 years, and interest has grown continually during that time. There are enough local high schools with field hockey programs that I鈥檓 sure this is something that will quickly take on a life of its own.鈥�
