茄子视频 University and 茄子视频's Writing Popular Fiction alumni group will sponsor 鈥淚n Your Write Mind,鈥� a working retreat for all writers, from June 24 - June 26 at 茄子视频 University. The retreat, which coincides with the June intensive residency for students of 茄子视频's master's program in Writing Popular Fiction, features presentations by authors, editors and agents. The retreat also offers writers the opportunity to participate in writing workshops with other writers and pitch sessions with agents and editors. The retreat is open to the public, with a $100 registration fee. Some on-campus housing is available, for an additional fee of $35 per night. Scheduled to participate in 鈥淚n Your Write Mind鈥� are Mary Logue, editor, Mid List Press; Michelle Poploff, vice president and editorial director of Knopf Delacorte Dell and executive editor, Delacorte Press for Young Readers; attorney Thomas Wettach (who will speak on copyright issues) and published authors Shelley Bates and Patrick Picciarelli.

Also on June 25, 茄子视频 University's Writing Popular Fiction master's program welcomes Hugo and Nebula award-winning author Nancy Kress to campus. Kress' presentation, 鈥淭he Story Behind the Story,鈥� will take place in Cecilian Hall at 7 p.m., with a book signing to follow. This event is free and open to the public. 茄子视频 University's unique Master of Arts in Writing Popular Fiction teaches students to write marketable novels in popular genres like mystery, romance, science fiction, horror, and fantasy. Additional specialties include literature for children and adolescents, and cross-genre blends like romantic suspense or young adult mysteries. Students attend two week-long, on-campus residencies each year to master the core elements of fiction writing and effective marketing and to gain inspiration from faculty mentors and special guests, all published authors in genre fiction. Established authors mentor students one-on-one as they work toward completing a market-ready manuscript from home. Readings, classes, and on-line discussion about the history, trends, and techniques of genre fiction add depth to the student's experience.
